About us
Welcome to the website of the Bristol branch of the National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers (RMT). Our union is the largest specialist transport workers' union in the UK with 80,000 members and growing.
The RMT Bristol branch with over 1,100 members is the largest branch in the RMT organising workers employed principally by rail and road transport companies.
Our members work for Network Rail, First Great Western Trains, (former) Wessex Trains, Virgin Trains, English Welsh & Scottish (International), Freightliner, Thales, Carillion Rail, Jarvis Rail, Grant Rail, Bideems, Integral, Select Service Partners (Compass Catering Group), Carlisle Cleaning and ISS Cleaning. Not to mention bus company Wessex Connect, Lynx Express and City Link road transport companies and dozens of other smaller sub-contractors who provide services to the railway, bus and wider transport industry.
RMT Bristol branch organises workers across a wide geographical sphere of influence, from Permanent Way and Station staff workers in Bridgwater and Weston-super-Mare in Somerset to Yate, Westerleigh and Chipping Sodbury in South Gloucestershire.
We represent Signallers, Track and Signalling Technicians, Guards, Train Drivers, Station and Revenue, Clerical and Catering workers in major stations at Bristol Temple Meads, Queen Anne's Road, Kingsland Road, Bristol Parkway and Bath Spa, to Shunters, Groundstaff and Fitters at some of our major freight yards and fleet maintenance depots in Avonmouth, Stoke Gifford, St Philips Marsh and Barton Hill.
RMT Bristol branch is proud to be an ALL-GRADES branch - part of an industrial union. Our union's Rule Book (Clause 4.a) commits us to:
"secure the complete organisation of all workers employed by any board, company or authority in connection with rail, sea and other transport and ancillary undertakings".
