Huge South West turn-out for pension strike
Local Government workers across the South West responded to the strike call by their unions to protect their pensions, on Tuesday 28th March
Rallies in support were held in all the big towns of the region and in many parts the entire council operations were brought to a stand still. The South West TUC is helping to co-ordinate the actions that look set to continue if the Conservative led Local Government Association and the Labour Government don't agree to treat local public sector workers the same as the national public sector workers.
Nigel Costley South West TUC Regional Secretary said: "It was a tremendous demonstration of the determination of local government workers to secure a fair deal. If you walked through any large town you came across picket lines every few hundred yards. All were getting support from the public who know that the unions are standing up for decent pensions in all sectors."
