Rail Pensions lobby of Parliament - Tuesday 9th May 2006

There will be a Joint Rail Unions lobby of Parliament on TUESDAY 9th MAY 2006. Ask your MP to support our campaign

Lobby Timetable:

1pm: Assemble outside Parliament.

2-3.30: Rally in Parliament, Committee Room 14.

3.30 onwards: Lobby your MP,

The Rail Unions have called a national rally and lobby of Parliament because we believe the Government has a responsibility to protect rail workers? pensions. The rail companies attacking pensions have taken billions of pounds in profits but cannot survive without Government subsidy.

The threat to rail workers' pensions has been compounded by the fact that rail privatisation fragmented one railway pension scheme into almost a hundred different sections. The rail unions are calling on the Government to make the scheme more efficient by streamlining the number of schemes.

Lobby Your MP - It's easy! By joining the rally and lobby you will be helping the campaign to protect rail workers' pensions. Directly lobbying your MP on the day will make an even bigger difference. Don't worry if you haven't done it before, it's easy!

Simply write to your MP as soon as possible in advance of the Lobby at the House of Commons, Westminster, London, SW1A OAA or fax your MP by visiting http://www.writetothem.com.

In your letter tell your MP that you wish to meet him or her from 2.00pm onwards as part of the lobby to protect rail workers' pensions. Also ask your MP to sign Early Day Motion 1681 which supports rail workers' pensions. A model letter is available on the RMT website. Although you can also turn up on the day and ask to see your MP, you will have a better chance of meeting your MP and making the lobby more effective if you contact your MP in advance.

It would be helpful if you let us know whether you will be able to attend the lobby by emailing j.croy@rmt.org.uk

The RMT will provide a short briefing paper which you can use to lobby your MP; this will be made available on the RMT website and will also be distributed on the day.

REMEMBER it is only by our combined efforts that we can turn this into an effective lobby and persuade MPs to back our pension?s campaign.

See you on 9th May!
