COMMUTERS are holding out for changes to the controversial Bedwyn to London Paddington train timetable after First Great Western said it is considering making further amendments to its services.
The company said that changes “for customers using Bedwyn/Newbury to Reading services” will be debated over the next few months.
It added: “We will announce these changes as soon as possible.”
The news comes as Newburytoday climbed on board with commuters this rush hour to take a look at the cramped conditions.
We took a video camera on board the 6.46am train from Hungerford to London Paddington to view the congestion and speak to rail users.
And we didn’t have trouble persuading passengers to speak out – especially the ones who were forced to stand in the aisles or buffet car.
New First Great Western timetables came into force in December, and commuters have argued that a reduction in carriages has meant that many commuters are unable to get a seat, especially those boarding the rush hour London Paddington services after Newbury.
The company yesterday (Tuesday) announced further changes to its timetable following a review. However, there were no changes to the services that run from Bedwyn to London Paddington via Newbury.
Under the new changes, the 5.52am Oxford to London Paddington train will no longer stop at Goring and Streatley, Pangbourne and Tilehurst. The 6.02am train will continue to stop at these stations.
First Great Western spokesman, Lance Cole, said: “We are fully aware of the issues and have managers and staff on the train, reporting back so we can assess the situation.”
