Redundancies will be resisted, RMT tells National Express

RMT: December 17 2008

TRANSPORT UNION RMT today warned National Express that compulsory redundancies across the group would be resisted with every means at its disposal, including industrial action if necessary.

"National Express has made a fortune at the public expense, but now the company is telling its workforce that they must pay the price for the recession," RMT general secretary Bob Crow said today.

"We are already fighting plans to cut jobs and services at National Express East Anglia, and now they are trying to wield the axe across the board solely to protect profits and dividends.

"They are supposed to be running public services but they are making it clear that they are interested only in the bottom line and that they do not care one jot about the knock-on effect these cuts will have on the economy.

"This is an attack on loyal transport workers as well as the passengers they try to serve, and we will fight redundancies all the way," Bob Crow said.
